At Lyons Tutoring, Sarah Lyons, the sole instructor, works together with students, both individually and in small groups, to provide the support needed to tackle daily homework assignments.

HELP ACROSS THE CURRICULUM:

Some students need help with one particularly difficult subject, while others need more general support across the curriculum. Sarah can assist students with a wide variety of subjects, including

English (Reading Comprehension, Writing, Analysis, Developing a Thesis)

Math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus)

History, Introductory Spanish and Latin, and others.

FINDING THE STRENGTH WITHIN:

Lyons Tutoring works together with students to help them identify their strengths. Sarah helps young people discover how to use those strengths not only to master their most challenging subjects but to become more confident, thriving students!

LONG-TERM SUPPORT WITHOUT CONTRACTS:

Lyons Tutoring does not require contracts, because Sarah believes that each student should be free determine his or her own academic path. However, many students work with Lyons Tutoring over a number of years, and for them, Sarah endeavors to provide the kind of steady, long-term support that enables them to transition smoothly from one grade to the next.

INDIVIDUALIZED MATH TUTORIALS:

Due to the cumulative nature of math, students who struggle in math class can often benefit not only from homework assistance but from a comprehensive review of material they struggled with in the past. Therefore, during both the summer and the school year, Lyons Tutoring provides individualized review tutorials tailored to help students obtain the solid foundation and confidence they need to flourish in math.

INDIVIDUALIZED WRITING TUTORIALS:

How often have you heard your son or daughter lament, “I just can’t write!” or “I just can’t understand symbolism!”? One of the most difficult lessons students are asked to master in high school is the close analysis of literary and historical texts. Although difficulties in math might be easier to identify and quantify, the vital lifetime skills of reading closely, developing a thesis, and articulating an argument are difficult to learn and become stumbling blocks for many students.

Therefore, in addition to curriculum-driven homework assistance, Lyons Tutoring also offers individualized reading and writing programs to help students not only understand the works of complex authors such as Twain, Dickens, Hawthorne, and Shakespeare but develop sophisticated written arguments about such demanding texts as well.
